THE ART OF COMMUNICATION:

Communication plays a major role in how we live our lives. While there are many different ways that we communicate, communication through visual means is by far one of the most universal, translatable, and understandable across cultures worldwide. Graphic art, typography, photography, animation, and videography can all be used by themselves or in combination with each other to communicate powerful messages that leave an impact. You may not realize how much of an influence these forms of communication have over us.

There are several applications in which visual communication plays a vital role. Visual aides assist us in our learning processes, business and marketing strategies, traffic and safety regulations, as well as any number of functions we complete in our day-to-day lives. Graphic design can be an outstanding resource for sending and receiving a magnificent amount of information. From the shampoo bottle we squeeze every morning to the stoplight that tells us when to go and when to stop. From the social media websites connecting us to friends and family to the letter “H” on a blue sign that lets us know there’s a hospital ahead, the use of graphics help us process the world around us.

The use of color, line, shape, typography, image, and video can greatly increase the effectiveness of any given message. The use and combination of these techniques are so prevalent in society that it is impossible to ignore their influence and importance. My goal is to not only create graphic works that serve specific functions, but to increase functionality through aesthetically pleasing design and to transform these graphic elements into functioning works of art. Graphic design and the use of visual communication is a vital form of communicating from one to another and its importance in our lives should never be underestimated.
